Bank of America, et. al.
So I was standing line at my local Bank of America branch today waiting to deposit my rolls of change from my garage sale. I was thinking to myself what a great bank Bank of America is. Their website is just about perfect, their online bill pay has never let me down, their tellers are the nicest I've ever dealt with - the whole setup is just nice to interact with.
Then I read the following on CNN.com:
Bank security breach may be biggest yet
Great, my personal info may have been sold to some jerk at a fake collection agency. I think I may go to storing all my money in a piggy bank under my bed...again.

I wouldn't go that far. But you might want to consider changing your account number.
I too am I BofA customer. On top of this incident, my employer had a lapse and possible release of personal financial information about pretty much every employee of the company back in April. (How stupid does someone have to be to leave a briefcase with a work laptop in the backseat of their car? Being that stupid should be punishable by death.)
After the BofA news, I spent an entire week opening a new account, transferring my funds back to it and closing the old one. I also closed my Paytrust.com account and moved to BofA's bill pay feature (better fee schedule and they finally added my payees after several years).
It was murder going through this, but it was worth it. I had already put fraud alerts on my credit reports after the employer mishap. But the BofA incident told me that my trusty 12 year old account wasn't going to make it any further. Such is life. I haven't YET decided to leave BofA, but anything is possible. I would strongly consider changing account numbers if I were you, though. And make sure to close out those automated payments first. Cleaning up after those "insufficient funds" bounces took the better part of the last 2 weeks (and counting, since I have another bounce to clean up on Monday).
Cheers!
